James joined OPTrust in 2015 and is the Chief Investment Officer. He leads the organization’s global investment strategy and oversees its implementation. He is a strong proponent of a Total Portfolio Approach, where investment teams and support functions are fully aligned with a purpose-driven investment goal. James believes investing is a people business and people are our greatest asset. He strives for continuous improvement, focusing on plan sustainability, leadership and creating high-performing investment teams.
James has over 30 years of investment, risk management and leadership experience. Prior to joining OPTrust, he held the role of Vice-President, Strategy & Asset Mix and Chief Economist at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan.
In addition to degrees in mathematics and meteorology, James has an MBA in finance from Dalhousie University and is a CFA charterholder.
