As part of this approach, we’ve reduced the demands placed on employers for administering various aspects of the OPSEU Pension Plan, and have assumed the primary and direct responsibility for the processing and verification of individual pension transactions.
This model allows OPTrust to provide prompt, efficient and consistent service to all Plan members and employers.

2025 Cost of living adjustment is 2.7%
Every January, OPTrust pensions are adjusted for the increase in the cost of living, as measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), reported by Statistics Canada.
Plan changes for multiple mandatory transfers
The OPSEU Pension Plan (the Plan) was recently amended to restore the amount of pension service certain members will establish in the Plan following two mandatory transfers between the Plan and the Public Service Pension Plan (PSPP). For affected members who rejoin the Plan on a mandatory basis on or after January 1, 2024, the amendment restores the amount of pension service they earned during their prior membership in the Plan at no extra cost to them.
Defined benefit pension plans: Supporting Ontario’s economy
Retirees with defined benefit pensions stimulate business growth and job creation in their communities by injecting billions of dollars into the economy every year.
OPSEU/SEFPO retroactive salary awards
Retroactive wage increases have been confirmed affecting various bargaining unit employees including Ontario Public Service Unified, Correctional Services, and LCBO among others.

Looking to join the OPSEU Pension Plan?
The OPSEU Pension Plan is a defined benefit pension plan. A defined benefit pension aims to provide a monthly pension for life, based on a formula that uses salary and pension service to calculate the amount of the pension benefit.
The employers who have the option to join fall into two categories:
Authorized Employers are employers who deliver a public service and/or perform a function on behalf of the Ontario government.
Post-2012 receiving employers are employers who have members who were transferred in from the OPSEU Pension Plan. These employers deliver a public service and/or perform a function on behalf of the Ontario government.
In both categories, the employer must have entered into a participation agreement with OPTrust’s Board of Trustees.
To be considered eligible to participate in the OPSEU Pension Plan, an employer must deliver some level of public service or perform a function on behalf of the Ontario government.
Other employers may be considered by the Sponsors if OPTrust members have been transferred to them. To request an application form, get in touch or call 416-681-6100.
