Stephen joined OPTrust in 2018 and became a member of the Executive Team in February 2020. As General Counsel, he leads the Legal Services team which provides legal and regulatory counsel to the organization, with a focus on investments and member experience. He also oversees the organization’s corporate secretary, procurement and legal operations functions.
Prior to joining OPTrust, Stephen was Vice-President and Associate General Counsel at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and was a corporate lawyer in private practice at leading law firms in New York and Toronto. He is an Officer of the International Bar Association’s Corporate and Mergers & Acquisitions Law Committee and is a former member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Securities Advisory Committee.
Stephen holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Toronto, a bachelor of laws from Osgoode Hall Law School and a master of laws from Columbia University. He is a member of both the Ontario and New York bar.
